License Verification
Where available, VetCostIQ displays a hospital's state license status, sourced directly from state veterinary board rosters. This is not self-reported — it comes from official government data. License status helps you confirm that a facility is legally authorized to operate.
Active | License is current and in good standing with the state veterinary board |
Expired | License has lapsed — the facility may no longer be authorized to operate |
Delinquent | License renewal is overdue — fees or requirements not yet met |
Probation | License is active but under disciplinary restrictions from the board |
Revoked | License has been revoked by the board — facility is not authorized to practice |
Unknown | License status has not been verified from a state roster yet |
1How We Source License Data
VetCostIQ ingests license rosters directly from state veterinary medical boards. Some states provide bulk downloads or open data portals; others have searchable databases we crawl. Each hospital's license status is matched by name, address, and license number. The source URL (roster or database) is stored as a reference for transparency.
2Verification Modes
Some states license veterinary facilities directly (facility_license mode). Others only license individual practitioners, so we roll up practitioner licenses to the facility level (practitioner_rollup mode). Some states don't license facilities at all — in those cases, status shows as "not_applicable_state".
3Refresh Frequency
License data is refreshed on a schedule that matches each state board's own update cadence — typically every 30 days. The "last checked" date on each hospital profile shows when the license status was last verified from the board roster.
Pro Tips
- •License status is sourced from official state veterinary board rosters — not self-reported by hospitals.
- •Click the license badge to see the source roster URL for full transparency.
- •A "Probation" or "Delinquent" status doesn't necessarily mean the hospital can't operate — check the board's website for details.
- •Some states don't license veterinary facilities at all — in those cases, status shows as "Not Applicable".
