SearchFiltersLocationPricing

The search page is the main hub for finding veterinary care. Search by hospital name, city, or zip code. Filter by hospital type, sort by distance or price, and see real pricing data from community-submitted invoices. Each result card shows the office visit price range, Google rating, distance, and hidden-fee count — so you can make an informed decision before you even click through to a hospital profile.

Enter a city or zip in the location bar → or click the target icon to use GPS → results filter to your chosen radius

1Location Search

The location bar at the top of the search page accepts city names ("Albuquerque, NM"), zip codes ("87101"), or full addresses. Click the circular target icon to use your current GPS location — your browser will ask for permission. If you deny location access, the page defaults to a nationwide view and you can still search by text. Results are filtered to a radius you choose: 5, 10, 25, 50, or 100 miles, or statewide.

2Radius Selection

The radius filter lets you control how far from your location to search. 5 miles is great for urban areas with many vets nearby. 50-100 miles is better for rural areas. "Statewide" shows all hospitals in your state. When you change the radius, results update instantly — no page reload needed.

3Hospital Type Filter

Filter by hospital type to find the right kind of vet for your pet. Available types: Small Animal (dogs and cats), Emergency (24/7 emergency care), Urgent Care (walk-in urgent care), Specialty (board-certified specialists), Feline-Only (cats only), Equine (horses), Avian (birds), Exotic (reptiles, small mammals, etc.), Large Animal (livestock), Mixed Practice (multiple species), and Mobile (house calls). You can combine type filters with location and text search.

4Specialty Filter

Below the type filter, specialty tags show what each hospital treats — Dogs, Cats, Exotic Pets, Horses, Birds, Large Animal. Click a tag to filter results to hospitals that treat that species. This is especially useful for exotic pet owners who need a vet that treats reptiles or birds.

5Sorting Options

Four sort modes are available: Nearest (closest hospitals first, requires location), Top Rated (highest Google rating first), Lowest $ (lowest office visit price first — only hospitals with pricing data appear at top), and Hidden Fees (hospitals with the most hidden-fee reports first — helps you avoid surprise charges). Hospitals with pricing data always sort above those without, regardless of sort mode.

6Price Badges on Cards

Each hospital card shows an office visit price range when pricing data is available. The price is labeled by source: "Invoice-Verified" (green — extracted from real pet owner invoices, the highest confidence), "Hospital-Reported" (published directly by the clinic), or "Estimated" (amber — regional or state average, use as a rough guide only). If no pricing data exists, the card shows "No pricing data yet — be the first to share!"

7Text Search

The smart search bar lets you search by hospital name, city, state, zip code, or even service name (e.g., "spay" or "dental cleaning"). Text search works nationwide — no location required. If you search for a service name, results include hospitals that offer that service based on their pricing data.

8Demographics Panel

Click the "Demographics" button to open a slide-out panel with live platform statistics. When no location filter is active, it shows nationwide stats: total hospitals listed, enriched profiles, pharmacy partners, cities covered, and patient-submitted records. When a location filter is active, the stats switch to "in this area" — showing counts specific to your search region. The panel also includes a price range summary and local service averages.

9Add a Missing Hospital

If your vet isn't in the database, click "Add Hospital" (next to the Demographics button). Enter the hospital name and we'll search Google Places to find it. Once found, the hospital is added to the database with basic info (name, address, phone, website, Google rating, hours). You can then visit its profile and upload invoices to add pricing data.

10Pagination

Search results are paginated — 12 hospitals per page by default. Use the page controls at the bottom to navigate. If you need to see all results at once, click "Show All" to expand the list. For large result sets (200+ hospitals), the system loads pricing data only for the current page to keep things fast.

Pro Tips

  • •If you deny location access, the page defaults to a nationwide view — you can still search by city or zip.
  • •The "Demographics" panel shows live stats: total hospitals, enriched profiles, pharmacy partners, and cities covered. Stats switch between "nationwide" and "in this area" based on your filters.
  • •Prices in amber are estimated — prices in green are invoice-verified from real pet owners. Always prefer invoice-verified data for accuracy.
  • •Click "Add Hospital" if your vet isn't listed — we'll look it up via Google Places and add it automatically.
  • •Hospitals with pricing data always sort above those without, so you'll see priced options first regardless of sort mode.
  • •Use the specialty tags (Dogs, Cats, Exotic Pets, etc.) to quickly find vets that treat your type of pet.
  • •The smart search bar accepts service names too — try searching "dental" or "spay" to find hospitals that offer those services.
  • •Sort by "Hidden Fees" to see which hospitals have the most hidden-fee reports — useful for avoiding surprise charges.
